Kevin Hearne's HOUNDED became one of my favorite novels this year no later than the end of the first chapter. The story is fresh and compelling, the tale of a 2,100 year old Druid—the last in the world—who goes up against forces above and beyond what he /should/ be capable of dealing with. The world is vast and immersive, and Hearne has definitely done his homework, filling the world to the brim—and then some!—with history and backstory. The pantheons of the ages are present, though the Irish pantheon is quite the predominant one in HOUNDED. The story especially appealed to me as I have some Celtic heritage myself, and I have a special place in my heart for tales with the Celtic pantheons. An absolutely wonderful read, and I look forward to the next installment! PS. I just wish I had ARCs of the second and third books—I need my Atticus fix!
