I was entertained
my 8th grade history teacher gave me this book since he knew how much i loved medieval history. I leaned alot about "the mother queen" from this book.
Lissom grass! Sandhoppers! What more needs to be said.
Some of these short stories are brilliant. Most of them are just a couple of pages long. In one of the stories, a man and his friend are eating artichokes, his friend suggests that their unique taste comes from Prussic acid. The first man recognizes it as a superficial attempt to impress and therefore, expecting that he didn't actually know what he was talking about, in an innocent way asks the friend to elaborate about the acid - whereby the friend makes a silly retreat and suggests changing subject! I could here quote what Chekhov wrote about Gogol's The carriage, that this story alone is worth 20000 Rubel, but that would make me look somewhat like the friend in the story above :D
