I found the blurb intriguing so I requested it from the library. Wow, was I surprised! I was pulled into the story faster than most of my recent reads (finished in about eight hours after reading at lunch, at home, before bed...). And I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended!
To me the ending of this book was rather abrupt, I was definitely expecting more to happen. It turns out it is really only a short story but okay. Gabrielle McQueen has just arrived home to Maine for Christmas and his father, the local sherrif sends him up the moutain to warn Loralei (Lolly) Helton about a forcasted ice storm and to bring her down from her home up there before the ice storm starts. Gabrielle does not want this errand as he has past issues with Lolly - but all that changes pretty fast. Loralei has already heard about the storm and has arranged to stay in town with some friends but she goes home to gather some essentials and that when the problems start. A couple of Ice Addicts decide to rob Lolly so they follow her home and hold her captive, she is just figuring out how to get away when Gabrielle shows up and helps her out of the house but the couple, Nicky and Darwin give chase - there are a couple of scenes where it get a bit scary but of course, in this story, good wins over evil.
Impressive volume on the science, history and cultures of cooking. Ever thought about what is happening at a cellular level while you prepare food? Fascinating read and helpful reference.
While this isn't my favorite book of the series, I did enjoy it and look forward to more in the series. For me, there was too much anger and too many misunderstandings in this book for it to be a favorite. I do see how the events in this book may be used to move the series forward. I hope in the future, we see more of Bones and Cat working together against the bad guys instead of at odds with each other.
