This is our current bedtime book. It's much heavier than I expected, but quite good - the girls are enthralled. The damn rabbit words are a pain for reading out loud - I don't think I've pronounced "El-ahrairah" the same way twice. Still, we're having a blast, and last night the kids surprised me with a rocking clay diorama of Hazel and Fiver hanging out beside the warren. Good stuff.
Cheesy but good.
Steve Martin is a genius and this book is a gem. If only all autobiographers could be as self-effacing as Martin. The line "Disneyland was my Versailles" sticks with me and I quote it often. An amazing life story told poignantly and simply.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would at the beginning. There is a lot of extra detail that has nothing to do with the mystery, but most of it was enjoyable. This book did suffer from the problem of "Why don't you just tell the police the evidence you have?" It seemed like Flavia could have had this whole thing solved quicker if she had just worked with the police, but she's 11, so it made sense that she made it hard for everyone.
