At first I was slightly put off because it reminded me of the The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. I thought it was a riff on that book, but I was mistaken. It's a book about grief and as I let it wash over me, it felt cathartic. There are clever uses of font, photo and script which interested me as well.
Loved the book, loved the movie.
Totally different/better than I expected. I LOVE the Fables series and I bought this for Ryan last Christmas, but didn't read it until recently. It is a "single-shot" story line that includes some of the Fables characters, but you don't need to know the Fables 'universe' to read this book. It is the story of Snow White who is stalling for time with a Arabian sultan by telling him stories (1001, although this book isn't inclusive of all 1001). Each story is illustrated by a different artist, which works really well for this book. The highlight for me was the art by James Jean (who handles all the Fables series covers). His work is breathtakingly beautiful and transports you right into the fairy tales.
Amazing start to a truly captivating series.
Very interesting, gruesome and extremely sad
