At first Angie Sage added WAY too many descriptions about things we just didn't care about. The people? Important? The rat? Important. Back story on the rat? Truly don't care. Rat's wife who is simply mentioned a few times in the book? Don't care. It seemed like she was trying to describe EVERYTHING so much that it wasn't working. A little bit into the book (maybe 1/3 of the way?) she dropped that and the story went much better. About halfway through the book it really took off and I couldn't put it down, even though it was 2 in the morning. Great fun story, not sure if I'm willing to get into the series, but a fun read.
